Dalton de Souza Amorim has a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from the Universidade de São Paulo (1979), MSc (1982) and PhD (1987) in Biological Sciences (Zoology) from the Universidade de São Paulo (1987).

 

Professor at the Universidade Federal da Paraíba from 1985-1990, and hired at the Universidade de São Paulo since 1990. He was approved as a Full Professor in 2002 and Senior Professor in 2013.

 

He has research in Zoology, with emphasis on morphology and systematics of recent groups, phylogeny, systematics, biogeography, and evolution especially of Diptera, but also of other taxonomic groups.

 

Throughout his career, he had five projects funded abroad and more than 60 projects and fellowships for his students approved in the country, including a FAPESP Thematic Project (2004-2009).

 

He had four books published, 23 book chapters published in Brazil and abroad, and 93 articles published in national and international scientific journals. He has been a reviewer for nearly 30 scientific journals from Brazil and from other countries. He has taught 70 undergraduate courses in Brazil, 39 postgraduate courses in Brazil, and seven postgraduate courses overseas, and participated in more than 210 roundtables, lectures and conferences at home and abroad. Scientific Productivity fellowship from CNPq.
