Claudio J. B. de Carvalho is Full Professor at the Universidade Federal do Paraná. He did his PhD in Entomology at the Universidade Federal do Paraná in 1988.

 

In 1992, he developed a one-year postdoctoral research at The Natural History Museum (BMNH), London. He edited or co-edited four books, including the recently published 'The Insects of Brazil: diversity and taxonomy' (March 2012) and 'Biogeography of South America, patterns and processes' (January 2011).

 

He published over 150 articles in national and international journals and 15 book chapters in Portuguese and in English. He has supervised 30 Master's dissertations and 18 PhD thesis and also supervised three postdoctoral projects in the fields of taxonomy, systematics and biogeography of flies.

 

He was twice President of the Sociedade Brasileira de Entomologia and was the Editor-in-chief of the Revista Brasileira de Entomologia from 2009 to 2012. He is currently vice-coordinator of the Graduate Program in Entomology at the Universidade Federal do Paraná. Scientific Productivity fellowship from CNPq.
